Cricket: Soggy McLean Playground sees no sport

The one-day international in between New Zealand and Pakistan has been discontinued in Napier. There was talk of player safety being affected in the soggy situations.
New Zealand now head to Auckland 1-0 up in the 3 match series. The umpires Bruce Oxenford and Brent Bowden gradually relented after the fifth assessment at 6.20pm. Earlier, when the covers were removed, Grant Elliott at the same time splashed in the infield.

There were a couple of boos, handshakes in between captains Kane Williamson and Azhar Ali and then the audience shuffled out the gates for autographs. A cut-off time of 7.17pm had been set as the newest for play to begin. The rain stopped mid-afternoon and an approximated 300 lovers camped in the main take a position until the last pronouncement with cartons of hot chips for organization.

The umpires emerged, hidden by umbrellas, at 3.30pm for a second assessment. One dug a heel into the wicket block like Don Clarke planning a 1960s place kick.He would be hoping he had worn gumboots. The tractor and extremely sopper heading to the center initially looked like they were generating through a wave at the beach as they attempted to prepare the surface area.A local saying says if you want to break the drought in Hawkes Bay, routine a cricket match. So it proved.
